Oh, man, do I love grilled cheese. One of my favorite meals is a grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup. Normally, my requirements for grilled cheese are pretty simple: good bakery bread (well buttered) and high quality sharp cheddar cheese. But as I'm currently trying to buy as little as possible, and use what I have on hand, I tried something different for my grilled cheese sandwich yesterday. I still purchased the good bakery bread, but used some cheeses that I'd bought for a party that I'd never used--havarti and horseradish cheddar.
It made the most deliciously cheesey, gooey, yummy, perfect grilled cheese sandwich I've ever had. The horseradish cheddar gave just the nicest hint of heat and paired really well with the tomato soup (also purchased--I can't resist Safeway's Tuscan Tomato & Basil Bisque). I'm still dreaming about this grilled cheese, and will definitely be making it again!
